Discipleship | Lesson 5 | Devotion 3

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

During His earthly ministry, Jesus Christ recruited and trained a group of men known as the twelve disciples or the apostles. These men were the closest people to Jesus Christ. In

John 14, Jesus begins to tell them of His soon-to-come departure. The person who had invested in them and trained them and answered their questions was about to leave. It would have been human nature for them to begin to panic and beg Jesus Christ to stay and train them longer. The solution for these disciples was simple, Jesus Christ would send them someone else to continue their training and teaching.

In John 14, Jesus tells them of the Comforter “which is the Holy Ghost.” He tells His disciples that this Comforter “shall teach you all things.” While this Comforter never came to earth, the Holy Spirit came in to occupy the hearts and lives of those disciples. He does the same with every Christian today. God has placed spiritual leaders and teachers in our lives to lead and guide us in Biblical truth. While these are God-ordained positions, men pale in comparison to the spiritual leading of the Teacher that lives inside of every Christian.

You may never understand everything recorded in the Scripture, but you have a Teacher who will lead and guide you. Ask the Holy Spirit every time you open God’s Word to show you something fresh and new for your life. Open your life to His leading. Do not silence the voice that God has placed inside you. What can the Holy Spirit teach you today?
