Discipleship | Lesson 4 | Devotion 4
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us- ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
For years, there has been a dangerous doctrine pervading the church that only those that God chooses can be saved. Does God know who will be saved throughout the course of time? Yes, of course, He does; as we have studied, He is omniscient. Do we know who will be saved during our lifetime? No, we do not because our minds are finite. Many times, we use God’s knowledge of those who will be saved as an excuse to not tell others.
According to our passage, the heart of God is that everyone would get saved. Therefore, if we don’t know who will be saved and God wants everyone to be saved, would it be safe to conclude that we should just go ahead and tell everybody? Here at franklin Road, we want to do our part in reaching others. Throughout this curriculum, you will find encouragement and applications about how you can tell others about Christ. We want to share the Gospel with everyone because salvation is offered to all.
As you seek to become a more committed follower of Christ at this church, our prayer is that you would develop a burden for the lost that is consistent with the burden of God found in II Peter 3:9. You’ve received a wonderful gift in salvation, this gift isn’t exclusive so go ahead and tell everyone what Jesus has done for you!
